Try playing a fullscreen movie on your Windows source machine, then access it via RDP over a low-bandwidth link. Where RDP falls apart is when Windows is rendering pure video. This would be much faster than VNC, which has to send bitmap image data to the client. It's not hard to send the instructions to a client to do the same thing. The source Windows machine knows exactly what is required to do this: it had to render the screen image in the first place.

They're not (usually) sending video image data from the server screen, they're instead sending instructions to the client on how to build a look-a-like screen, kinda like web servers sending HTML to client browsers that state how to build a web page. I think Microsoft cheated when they built RDP (but in a good way). you don't want to be in a situation where you don't have enough to split between the 2 of them, and thats where the problem occurs, and may lead you to having insufficient resources to even meet the minimum spec for the VM you are trying to run (you also need cpu and ram for your NAS to operate as well.) Keep in mind, in virtual station you will essentially be splitting cpu and ram resources between your VM and your NAS.
So VM performance really depends if you are using the right NAS model for this or not. I use a TS-877 which has a ryzen cpu and 16gb ram (32gb would have been better but 16gb is okay ), which is perfect for the job. Could be the reason you under allocate resources is because your QNAP NAS model is not really the ideal candidate for VM purposes, due to CPU threads and ram availability.

Perhaps 2-4 cores with 8-16gb ram for your VM windows 10 ? or perhaps there is a less demanding requirement, but this works for meĥ. They may have an official minimum requirement, but it would be best if you follow the advise of some expert youtubers that know what specs work best. Windows 10 has a minimum spec requirement. There is an upgrade to the previous VNC where it uses a hook driver, but it still isn’t fast enough to pass RDP. The RDP is way ahead regarding speed and rate of work. Whatever you do, a VNC cannot be as fast as an RDP. How? Well, starting off with the most obvious difference: the speed. Seems like one and the same thing doesn’t it? It’s not.
